JOB TITLE: Maintenance Worker II
EMPLOYER: City of West Park

STATUS: Exempt (Part-Time) Nights, Holidays & Weekends Only
SUMMARY: Under close to general supervision, performs a variety of general buildings and grounds related work at an assigned facility.
Skilled and semiskilled manual work in street landscaping, repair, drain and catch basin maintenance, construction activities and operation of heavy equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Maintains grounds and landscape areas in order to ensure that grounds and landscape areas are presentable, clean, and safe.
• Performs a variety of facility maintenance work in order to ensure a clean, safe environment for the public and City employees, minimize major repair/replacement costs, and/or extend the useful life of equipment/fixtures.
• Cleans offices, break rooms, restrooms, halls, shop areas, pavilions, sidewalks, etc.
in order to provide a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for the public and other staff.
• Interacts with the public and/or other City employees in order to give directions/information, explain work activities/procedures, identify their service needs, and/or resolve day-to-day operational issues.
• Sets out temporary traffic control devices at the work site in order to provide a safe work environment and facilitate safe, efficient traffic flow.
• Prepares a variety of log sheets in order to document work activities, track equipment usage, and provide summary information to management.
• Maintains a variety of landscape and construction related equipment in order to ensure that the equipment operates safely and appropriately when needed, extend the useful life of the equipment, minimize down time, and minimize major repair/replacement costs.
• Moves a variety of furniture and related items in order to relocate/rearrange work stations/offices, set up for meetings, activities, and events.
• Perform various landscaping activities to include, tree planting, tree trimming, shrubbery and mowing in Park and within right of way.
• Maintain recreation playing facilities and fields, as assigned.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Works under the general supervision of the Public Works Operations Manager.
Exercises supervision of facilities maintenance employees, vehicle maintenance contractual services, street and landscaping crew, code enforcement contractual services and the residential solid waste services.
QUALIFICATIONS: • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or at least 6 months experience and/or training in maintenance, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certificates, licenses and registrations required: o Must have a valid Florida driver’s license.
o CDL class B Certification.
• Other skills required: o Knowledge of procedures and techniques for maintaining and repairing a variety of landscape related tools and equipment.
o Knowledge of basic buildings and grounds maintenance procedures.
o Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions/guidelines associated with a variety of general maintenance work.
o Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, gender, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.
