The L.
P.
N.
assists the Charge Nurse in his/her responsibility for total care within the nursing unit and management of the unit.
Performs any and all professional nursing duties.
May act as Charge Nurse of the unit with all attendant Charge Nurse authority and responsibility.
Provides nursing care according to physician’s instructions and in conformance with state approved Florida Board of Nursing Practice, established standards and administrative policies which may include more than the specific responsibilities list below.
Minimum Qualifications I.
Education: Graduate of a State Accredited School of Practical Nursing and currently licensed to practice as a Practical Nurse in the State of Florida.
II.
Experience: 1.
Clinical experience, specifically geriatric nursing preferred.
2.
New Graduates eligible.
3.
Must have a sincere desire to work with the ages and physically disabled.
4.
IV certification with in 1 year of hire date (we provide).
5.
Current CPR certification.
6.
Maintain CEU’s for licensure.
III.
Physical & Health Requirements: 1.
TB skin test and a physical prior to employment, and annually thereafter.
Must show evidence of good health and be free of communicable diseases.
2.
Must be able to read print with visual aides, if required.
3.
Good grooming, with a neat and clean appearance 4.
Pass a 10 panel drug test (Drug free work place) 5.
The ability to safely push 100 lbs.
medication cart or a 100+ lbs patient in a geri, shower or wheelchair.
6.
The ability to bend at the knees and waist while performing medical treatment to patients at least 30 times a day.
7.
The ability to bend and reposition a 100+ lb patient 1 to 30 times per day.
8.
Must be able to respond to the paging system in the appropriate manner.
IV.

Duties: 1.
Check and administer medications and treatments per standards of Florida Nurse Practice Act and facility policy; order medications from pharmacy; maintain narcotic records; count narcotics with nurse from outgoing and incoming shifts.
2.
Assist the Registered Nurse in charge in giving more complex treatments.
3.
Maintain resident care plans.
4.
Carry out the resident care plan set forth for each resident.
5.
Maintain accurate records of nursing and medical care received by the resident.
6.
Implement plans through tasks such as wound treatment, monitoring pulse, blood pressure and temperatures.
7.
Resident education.
8.
Assist the Charge Nurse in supervision and management of the unit and assumes the role of Charge Nurse as assigned.
9.
Observe and record the condition of residents.
10.
Encourage and assist residents to participate in activities which promote physical and emotional well being.
11.
Respond quickly to emergencies.
12.
Perform and specific duties assigned by the Registered Nurse or the Charge Nurse.
13.
Organize staff and work loads 14.
Documentation of the care of the resident.
15.
Make ethical decisions related to consent and confidentiality.
16.
In all cases nurses need to establish a professional relationship with residents, families and physicians and other nurses through the community.
17.
Other duties as assigned.
VI.
Working Conditions: 1.
Sitting, standing, bending, lifting and moving intermittently during work hours.
2.
Subject to frequent interruptions.
3.
Willingness to work beyond normal working hours, in other positions temporarily when necessary; i.
e.
: When CNA staffing is not adequate, will perform CNA duties and sign the back of the daily staffing sheet.
4.
Attend and participate in continuing education programs 5.
Hours as assigned by the Director of Nurses with flexibility of hours to allow staff meetings, inservices or overtime.
Attendance at staff meetings and inservice programs is expected.
