Truly exceptional (over two hundred and fifty year old!)— French antique secrétaire piece with drop down front for desk area, with exquisite carving throughout the piece—which opens to ample pull out drawers and to top it off: gorgeous veining on the marble top that somehow has remained intact through all these years!
We believe from our research that it’s of the Louis XVI era in a neoclassical style from the mid 1700s.
But, we cannot say for certain that it’s not Louis Philippe, etc.
This antique commode features a green marble top, truly breathtaking carvings throughout it of neoclassical themes like the instruments, bows, greenery, and floral detailing.
It even has beautiful detailing on all of the brass hardware as well.
The front “drawer” opens up to reveal a secretary desk component with burl wood front drawers and an inset leather surface with gold leafing.
The two front cabinet doors open to ample storage with three very large drawers with birds-eye graining on their fronts.
There is still yet another drawer on the bottom for even more storage! If ever there was a piece to exemplify form and function, this would be it.
The size and scale of this would look grand in a handsome office, as an entryway piece, or used as a buffet/sideboard to store linens and entertaining pieces, or it could even be used as an elegant dresser!
The piece is in excellent vintage condition, with small scratches and dings as one might expect for a multiple hundred year old piece, but is incredible for its age and absolute stunning.
